Review: ElectraStim Silicone Noir Ovid Dildo and Flick EM-60

Sometimes, an opportunity crosses your path that is just too good to pass up.  I’d been doing some reading about electrostimulation, and was very intrigued.  The descriptions were tantalizing.  One account described it as something like having sex with a ghost.  And while I was pondering this, I happened to see that ElectraStim was looking for reviewers.  The timing couldn’t have been more perfect, so I dropped them a line.

After talking a bit about my tastes and experience (or more accurately, lack of it) with electrosex toys, they graciously sent me the Silicone Noir Ovid G-Spot Dildo and Flick EM-60 Stimulator.

Ovid and Flick Stim Pack

The Ovid is a moderately sized G-spot dildo, with a pronounced head and a bump midway down the shaft for G-spot stimulation.  The insertable length is 5 inches, and the maximum diameter is 1.5 inches.    It is covered in matte, smooth silicone.  There is a visible seam running along its length, but this was not noticeable to me in use.  The loop handle at the base makes it easy to hold as well as anal safe.  The Ovid is easily cleaned with soap and water, but care must be taken to let it dry thoroughly to ensure that no water remains in the connection ports.

The Flick stimulator pack is what gives the Ovid its oomph.  It charges via USB connection (cable included), and a full charge gives you up to six hours of play time.  It’s light, and fits neatly in the palm of my hand, with easy to use controls.  The up and down arrows move between the 24 levels of intensity.  The mode button cycles through 7 stimulation patterns. Holding down the mode button places the device in “flick mode” where the stimulation level responds to your hand motion.  All ElectraStim toys use the same size connectors, so the Flick can be used for different types of stimulation.

Ovid Turn It Up To ElevenBefore going on to the in-use portion of this review, I want to touch on a few key points about electrosex safety.  ElectraStim includes this information with their toys, and offers even more extensive information in the Advice Guides on their website.

  • Never use electrodes above the waist
  • Never use your stimulator and electrodes in or near water.  You can (and should) use lubricants and conductive gels with your electrodes but you should avoid getting moisture inside them.
  • Always check your electrodes, stimulator and cables for damage before use
  • You should not use electrostimulators if:
    • You suffer from any form of heart condition
    • You have inflamed, swollen or broken skin where you wish to apply the electrodes
    • You are pregnant
    • You are fitted with any form of mechanical medical device
    • You suffer from epilepsy
    • You suffer from any form of penile, vaginal or anal disorder or infection

Having read the advice guides and safety instructions, I was still slightly nervous about putting the Ovid inside me.  My vagina has seen its share of battery-powered devices, but actually running an electrical current through my body was a little daunting.  I started by holding the Ovid in my hand with the power on a low setting.  It tingled, sort of like the pins and needles of my hand being asleep.  It was an odd feeling, but not an uncomfortable one.  I decided that it was time to break out the lube and see how my vagina would react.

At first, I played with the Ovid without power, to see how the shape worked for me.  The head, slight curve and mid-shaft swell combine for solid G-spot stimulation.  The swell makes this toy tend to lock into position with pressure right on my G-spot.  Having warmed up nicely with the Ovid powered down, I moved on to Phase 2.

At first, I thought I had messed something up.  The same setting that sent sensation racing through my hand barely registered internally.  I pulled the Ovid out, wrapped my hand around the shaft… and promptly dropped the lube-slick dildo when it gave me a good strong tingle that I wasn’t expecting.

Having learned the important lesson that internal stimulation takes more power, I re-inserted the Ovid and slowly began inching up through the settings.  Just before the halfway mark, it started to feel pleasantly tingly.  It was kind of like a cross between deep, rumbly vibrations and slight, involuntary muscle flutters.  I didn’t want to thrust at all, I just wanted to enjoy that cosmically weird feeling.  And then I wanted to feel more of it.  Encouraged by the blissful tingling in my vagina, I continued to bump up the intensity to about 75%.  And then, I tried the patterns.

I have patterns on nearly every vibrator I own.  Other than the occasional fast, high intensity pulse, I don’t use them.  You could steal the pattern function from every vibe in my collection and I wouldn’t notice for months.  I didn’t expect to care about the patterns on the Flick.  Oh, how very misguided and wrong I was!  Patterns are the true magic of electro-stimulation.  As the current ebbed and flowed through the Ovid, my vaginal muscles would involuntarily contract and release.  Each contraction pushed the swell of Ovid’s shaft tight against my G-spot.  It’s like ultimate, extra-strength Kegel exercises… and yes, it is rather like having a ghostly partner.  Though I wasn’t thrusting at all, the sensations almost felt like the Ovid was moving on its own.  The slow Wave is a blissful tease, the faster Dual Pulse brought me to my first electrosex orgasm.  The pulsing current of stimulation made it feel like I was coming for much longer than usual so I could really savor the feeling.

I did experiment somewhat with Flick Mode.  It’s definitely fun to play with, but the consistent programmed patterns were easier for me to use on my own.  I do plan to give Flick Mode another try with a partner at the controls, I think that has a great deal of potential.

All in all, my first foray into electrosex was a great success, and the Ovid/Flick combination is now a go-to toy for me.  I’m definitely interested in learning more and trying other electrosex products.  If you’re curious too, I highly recommend ElectraStim.  Their products are easy to use, and their website is extremely informative and beginner-friendly.  They also offer a 1 year warranty, which is extended to 3 years if you register your toy online.

The Flick EM-60 and Silicone Noir Ovid Dildo were provided free of charge in exchange for my honest review.
