Why am I so excited about Good Clean Love’s Almost Naked lube? Not-so-fun fact: Once upon a time, I hated lube. The first time I used it, I felt a burning sensation shortly after sex and itching for a couple of days beyond that. Same thing the second time.
I talked to my doctor, wondering what the problem was. She told me that I must not be using enough lube, that the burning and itching resulted from too much friction. So the third time, my boyfriend and I really slathered it on. Funny thing, the problem didn’t get better. I pitched my KY and switched to Astroglide. That seemed slightly better… until came down with a yeast infection. At that point, I decided lube was just not for me.
Of course, the problem wasn’t all lubes, it was the vagina-unfriendly chemical composition of KY/Astroglide. 1 I assumed KY and Astroglide were safe. No fragrances, no dyes… none of the usual things that I knew would set off my sensitive skin. And at that point in my life, they were they only lubes I’d heard about.
Fortunately, I’ve learned a thing or two since then. That’s how I knew that Good Clean Love Almost Naked lube was something I needed to try. No parabens, glycerin, propylene glycol or other nasties. The pH and osmolality are in the ideal range for vaginal use, so it’s unlikely to cause irritation.
If all that isn’t enough for you, Almost Naked is made of 95% organic ingredients. It’s cruelty free, vegan and packaged in an environmentally friendly plastic tube. It’s a water-based lube and therefore compatible with all kinds of condoms and sex toys. Personally, I prefer the feel of water-based lubes over silicone because it feels more like natural lubrication. Also, as you may be aware, I’m a big fan of silicone sex toys. The thought of trying to keep track of which silicone lubes are compatible with which silicone toys in my collection makes me tired, so water-based lube is my friend.
Almost Naked has a light vanilla flavor, but it’s natural and I had no issues with it. I’m the kind of person who is extremely picky about personal care products because I’m apt to break out in rashes from random ingredients my body doesn’t like, or develop a miserable headache from certain scents. 2 If a scent/flavor doesn’t bug me, I feel confident that it will be fine for the vast majority of people.
The tube packaging makes sense because Almost Naked is a thicker lube than most. Its primary ingredient is aloe juice, which gives it nice gel consistency. I like having a lube in my arsenal that will stay where I put it, rather than dripping down a toy onto my arm, or down my buttcrack onto my sheets/desk chair/couch 3. The only caveat I have is that some people are sensitive to aloe. It seems to be fairly uncommon, but if you’ve had any issues with aloe in the past, this is not the lube for you.
Almost Naked performs well in use. It’s long lasting for both sex and toy play. There’s minimal need to re-apply, and a little goes a long way. The flavor is mild and pleasant if you choose to engage in oral activities after applying Almost Naked. I like it in particular on highly textured toys, where it provides a slightly thicker layer of slipperiness.
Despite the thickness, Almost Naked doesn’t get sticky and cleans up easily. If you choose not to wash it off, it leaves your skin soft and smelling like sugar cookies. I left some on my breasts after a particularly thorough testing session and the Cookie Boobs effect was delightful.
I think the most important thing I have to say is this: Having nearly used up my free review tube of Good Clean Love Almost Naked, I intend to go spend my hard-earned money to purchase more. I own (and love) other lubes. I constantly get sample packets in my toy orders. But the fact remains that I need more of this specific lube in my life, and that should tell you something about how awesome it is.
